Install
On Linux or macOS:
tar -xzf inorderly_linux_amd64.tar.gz
sudo mv inorderly /usr/local/bin/
inorderly version
The binaries are pure Go and need no system libraries. The macOS ones aren’t signed by Apple, and macOS may ask you to allow them the first time. You can also clear the flag yourself:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine inorderly
On Windows, unzip the archive and run inorderly.exe from a terminal.
Check It Works
inorderly demo > report.json
The demo makes a set of events with parents, clocks that disagree and orphans, then feeds it in shuffled arrival orders, with every event sent one to five times, and checks every order gives the same output. It also restores from snapshots part way, adds late events, and merges two copies of a tick feed that each lost different ticks. Progress goes to the terminal, a JSON report to report.json, and the command fails if any check does. Then follow the quick start.
As a Go Package
go get github.com/inorderly/inorderly@latest
go install github.com/inorderly/inorderly/cmd/inorderly@latest
Building from source needs Go 1.24 or later and nothing else.
How Releases Are Made
Every release is built by GitHub Actions from the release commit, after the full test suite has passed on Linux, macOS and Windows. The binaries are then smoke-tested on their own kind of machine: Linux on x86-64 and ARM, an Apple silicon Mac and Windows. Each one has to give the same output for shuffled input, refuse late events, finish the same after being killed three times, and pass the demo. The Intel Mac build can’t run on those Macs, so it’s only checked for its architecture. The commit is tagged and the release published only if every check passes.
